Sympatha

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 10, 2026.

Sympatha helps you find a therapist based on how you heal. This page explains what we collect when you visit the site, take the quiz, reach out to a therapist, or list your practice here, and what happens to it. If anything below isn't clear, email connect@sympatha.com.

The quiz

You don't need an account to take the quiz, and we don't store your answers. Your results live only in the page's own web address while you're looking at them, so you can bookmark or share the link. Nothing about your answers is written to our database, and nobody at Sympatha sees them.

Reaching out to a therapist

When you contact a therapist through their listing, you're asked for your name, email, and a message, plus an optional phone number. That message can be personal; it might describe what's bringing you to therapy, including a concern or diagnosis. Here's what happens to it:

  • Whatever you choose to put in that message goes to the therapist you picked. It's stored on our servers and emailed straight to them, so they can find it again and reply. The form asks you to keep out medical records, insurance numbers, and anything highly sensitive, for that reason.
  • Their reply comes from their own email address, not through Sympatha, so everything after your first message is between the two of you.
  • Nobody on Sympatha's team reads what you write. We can see that a message was sent and whether it was delivered, not its content.
  • We keep these messages for 12 months, then delete them automatically. Email connect@sympatha.com if you'd like one removed sooner.

Contacting Sympatha directly

The contact form isn't always about a specific therapist. If you use it to reach Sympatha's team instead, for platform help or anything else, you're asked for your name, email, and a message. Here's what happens to it:

  • It's stored on our servers and emailed to Sympatha's team, not to a therapist.
  • Someone on our team reads it and replies from their own email address.
  • We keep these messages for 12 months, then delete them automatically. Email connect@sympatha.com if you'd like one removed sooner.

If you're a therapist

Listing your practice means giving us more: your name, license number, credentials, the states you're licensed in, languages, insurance accepted, the kinds of clients and concerns you work with, your bio, a ZIP code, and a photo if you add one.

Most of this becomes part of your public listing once you publish it; clients need to see it to know if you're a fit. A few fields stay private:

  • Your license number is collected but never shown publicly. Only Sympatha's team can see it.
  • Your email, phone number, and website stay off your public listing.
  • Your ZIP code sets the general city shown on your listing; the ZIP itself isn't published.

You can edit or remove any of this from your dashboard at any time.

We check the licensing and credential information you give us against publicly available sources, including state licensing authority records and public professional registries. We may do that when you first list your practice and from time to time afterwards, and we may use an outside verification service to do it. This confirms what you've told us against the public record; it isn't a judgment about your qualifications or the services you offer.

Your photo

A headshot you upload is stored in a public file so it can load on your listing page. We don't use it for anything else.

Member resources

Worksheets and other resources for members are stored privately and reachable only by a signed-in, active member. They're never public.

Payment

Membership is billed through Stripe. We never see or store your card number; Stripe handles that directly. We keep a reference to your Stripe subscription so we know whether your membership is active, and nothing more.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see how people use the site: page views, clicks, and errors, so we can fix what's broken and improve what's confusing.

  • Session recording is off. We don't record or play back what you do on the site.
  • Text you type into a form (your name, email, message) isn't sent to PostHog. It records that you interacted with a field, not what you typed into it.
  • PostHog runs on its own servers in the US and receives standard technical details: device, browser, a general location based on your IP address, and where you arrived from, such as a search engine, a link on another site, or a link we shared.

Cookies and local storage

If you're a therapist and sign in, a session token is stored in your browser to keep you logged in, along with a small preference for whether to stay signed in after you close the tab. PostHog also stores an anonymous device ID to connect your visits together. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Email

Account emails (confirming your address, resetting your password, signing in), inquiry notifications, and occasional reminders are sent from noreply@notify.sympatha.com through our platform's email service.

Your choices

Email connect@sympatha.com any time to ask us to delete a message you sent, correct or remove your therapist profile, or answer a question about your data.

You can also ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the same address and we'll take care of it.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page if anything here changes in a way that matters.
